Demonstration "Family is Future"
Around 600
people, the majority parents and countless children, came to
support the demonstration organised by the Austrian Family
Network in front of the Austrian Parliament on September 6th
2008. The gathered demonstrators were also joined by Austrian
Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn and the so-called “Family Bishop”
Klaus Kueng.
“Family is Future” was the Motto of the meeting with a plea to
change the current trend into the direction of comprehensive
family consciousness and openness to children. The organisers
handed over a catalogue of demands to Parliamentary Party
representatives.
The fact that so many came out onto the streets to support the demands of the Network, despite the hot summer weather, is a sign of great anxiety about the current Family Politics in Austria, said Guenter Danhels, Coordinator of the Austrian Family Network. There needs to be much more effective material and moral support for families instead of the “structural recklessness against families” and the inadequate consideration of their concerns. The major goals of the non-partisan and non-confessional Family Network which was founded this year are: “Generation and gender justice” as well as worthy consideration of the accomplishments of families, e.g. in education, nursing and caretaking; also in terms of the common good.
In conclusion representatives of all five parliamentary parties made statements to the recommendations of the Family Network.
There are approximately 35 partner organisations in the Family Network in Austria. WFWP-Austria joined shortly before the demonstration. see article
